Windows Internet Explorer language support installation

Tools needed:
Windows Millenium Edition (Me), Windows 2000, or Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher)
Windows Installation CD (required in rare instances)

Automatic configuration wizard:
When browsing a non-roman language web page for the first time with Internet Explorer 6, you might see a message indicating that you will need to download additional software to properly see the page (Figure 1).

The message will only appear once. If you cancel this request to install software, it will not return unless you first quit the web browser and then again attempt to view a web page in that language.

Starting the install process:
If you are able to install software on the computer, clicking the "Download" button will start the configuration process. As shown above, Internet Explorer will attempt to calculate the time required to download the necessary software.

Typically, the next message to appear will be a request (Figure 2) to allow the installation of software that is distributed by Microsoft and "digitally signed" by a trustworthy organization.

Status indication:
If you accept to install the software, and are able to install software on the computer, you should then see some indication of the installation progress follow in a new window (Figure 3).

Most frequently encountered error (insufficient permission):
If you are unable to install the additional support software, you might see a message (Figure 4) indicating that the installation cannot proceed. Typically, a reason is given. If the reason is that you do not have sufficient priviledges to install software, you may wish to ask the administrator or owner of the computer if they are willing to install the software following this same procedure.

Text size:
After successfully installing the language support, you should quit the web browser program, and start it again. Try accessing the text samples again and be sure that they display properly and that you are able to read them. For some language scripts you may find it useful to enlarge the on-screen text. To do this, use the "Text Size" submenu of the "View" menu (Figure 5).

If it doesn't "just work":
The procedure outlined here should typically work for test takers using the software indicated in the supported configurations matrix. If you are experiencing difficulties installing the language support for Internet Explorer in Windows Me, 2000 or XP, please address e-mail the technical support address, providing as much information as you can:
